My Plate

What is MyPlate?
My Plate is a program created by the US Department of Agriculture to help you achieve your nutritional goals and to be healthy. It aims to guide you to focus on variety, amount, and nutrition with your eating choices. Encourages you to choose foods and beverages with less saturated fat, sodium, and added sugars. It suggests to start with small changes to build healthier eating styles and it supports healthy eating for everyone

MyPlate has five main components:

1. Fruits

2. Vegetables

3. Protein

4. Grains

5. Dairy 

 

1. Fruits 

Fruits are a great way to start the day or for snacks throughout. As a teenage boy, you'll need 2 cups of fruit each day. As a teenage girl, you'll need 1.5 cups of fruit each day. Whole fruits, dried, or even a cup of 100% fruit juice is a great way to meet this requirement. Click Here for everything you need to know about your diet and fruits.

  

2. Vegetables

4. Grains 

Grains or carbs as most people refer to them, are a really easily obtained source of food. Cereal, bread, rice are probably common to your everyday diet. But you'll want to moderate your intake of grains. As a teenage boy you only need 8 ounces of grains each day.
